The course will cover the following topics:

The concepts and measurement of Informality: Evolution of theoretical and historical debates of the nature of the phenomenon and of root causes;

Understanding heterogenity and diversity in the composition of “ informal economy”: inherent characteristics of informality;

Tackling informality: perspectives of different players, governments, employers, workers, informal economy workers and entrepreneurs;

Policy approaches: need for an integrated and coherent platform for action.
