History of European labour market institutions

The course aims at providing students a historical perspective on existing institutions and ongoing debates about reforms. The main focus will be on early industrial development in Western economies, starting with the Industrial Revolution and the emergence of a new workers’ status in urbanizing Europe. The objective is to analyze the gradual elaboration of modern labor market institutions and welfare systems, as well as their diversity and their interactions with economic developments.
